Hi problem as below. The blocks should be solid in colour but as you can see there is a white line through them all as if the printer only prints in one direction but not the other. Then again I'm not a printer expert hence why I'm here! But if I print something in black and white there's no problem. Anyone help please?

This looks to me like an electronic print head failure. To determine if this is so, could you please upload a scan of a nozzle check?

Yes, this is a print head failure. Only a new print head might help. But there is a risk that a failed print head can damage the logic board, and a damaged logic board can damage a new print head, so replacing a Canon print head is a gamble, and I cannot tell what your chances of success are.

The i865 uses the same print head as the popular iP4000, so I think the print head is difficult or impossible to obtain. The parts number is QY6-0049-000 if you want to search the web for a replacement.

There is a slight chance that the error is caused by a bad electric contact between the print head and the print head carriage, so you could try cleaning the golden contact pads on the backside of the print head and the contact springs in the print head carriage with a cloth moistened with an electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.

I have some ties and shirt with those patterns. :D

A most interesting nozzle check! Looks pre-print head in origin, ie logic board. try cleaning the contacts as PeterBJ suggested.

The print head is actually two print heads in one package. One section is for pigment ink for text and uses the large BCI-3e cartridge. The other section is for the coloured and photo black dye inks and uses the smaller BCI-6 cartridges, and only the section for dye inks has failed.

Some times a print head looses the pigment black instead, with the colour section still intact. Both sections of the print head can fail independently.
