Things are getting out of hand for you across the pond that you're using MPH instead of KPH to make it seem like it's not as bad. 
To @ somebody, type the "@" and type the first three letters/numbers of the user name of the person. You will see a tiny popup window list with everyone whose user name has those first three letters you have typed to that point. As you type more letters the list gets shorter. At any time click on the name you want and the full name will appear after the @. Pretty sweet. Like Spell Check.
