I came across a method of generating endless printer test images, which may even please (or displease, I don't care) The Hat. Try this on your printer. Ghastly isn't it.

It is a clever program making use of fractals, in infinite variety. Endless hours of experimentation for those that like such things. Google "Sterling2" to find the download information. I would guess it is safe to download and I have not had any problems.

It takes a little getting into as it is quite a complex program to manipulate.

Having printed the image on the 9000 II, when comparing the monitor image with the printed image, a number of things show up. Unless you place the print under a appropriate illuminant, the light blue becomes invisible. The greens on the print are more dense than on the monitor, in fact the range of green density on the print exceeds that on the monitor. Quite an eye opener considering both monitor and printer are profiled. Try it yourself on your printer.

Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
Printed on Xerox iGen 3 using an extra slow feed designed for the Canson Watercolour paper I use. Straight off the printer Mid afternoon.Bright sun outside, and conditions I would call for light shade due to all 4 walls having windows......washed out pinks and greens, blue horizoltal ok but a tad washed out too.
Still fresh off the printer took it outside under intense sunlight and it glows, freaky stuff, its supposed to be a matt paper. Pinks and greens get closer to screen colour. Letting the colours settle till tomorrow and will look again.

Thanks for posting, it certainly is a challenging printer test

Note I printed on a sheet of A3 ( to get the entire image as posted) and its the first print done in over a month....shame on me.

I cant see what a test like this is actually saying to me at my age..........40 years ago it may have been an invitation to party:cool: :gig............:old

I still have a Dos screen saver that runs on my old Wang 386 computer, and it produces much the same kind of kaleidoscope of colours.

It can make over 5000 different screen shots and doesn’t repeat itself for hours on end.. :)

Watch those with some hallucinogens!

Poor mans path to Nervana

2-4 cups short STRONG black coffee, extra sugar, wait 5 min then cosy up close to the screen like you do for those silly pictures in which you can find all sorts of 3D stuff if you focus right, once in the groove away you go....and it WILL all happen for you ....especially if the missus catches you at it and you try to explain your actions:lol::lol::lol::lol:

On a serious note.
Had another look at my Test Print and the colours have settled, and matured into a fairly good representation of the screen viewed inside at around the same time and light conditions! (accepting that I am printing on what is essentially a matt surface), so much so that it would be of assistance to folks trying to fathom the best drying time for their Monitor Calibration Tests generated by colour munki. In my case the change in the pigment ink image is nearly as dramatic as the image itself.........well nearly

I found the same, 24 hours (the same as the profiling print) and the match was much better. But you can still see differences in the range of density of some colours, due I think to the wide changes of density in the image, that you do not normally see in test images.

Here is another Sterling2 fractal image. I changed this to a PNG, JPG was showing artefacts.
